john christopherson (1921-1996)

Christopherson was a collector of paintings and sculpture prior to his resignation from the Civil Service in 1959 to become a full-time painter.

The moon is a recurring theme in Christopherson's paintings revealing the influence of Paul Nash. Whilst his deserted street scenes have a deceptive simplicity, this contrasts with the minute detail incised into the surfaces of his pictures.

Arts Council holds his work.
