tessa newcomb (b.1955)

Tessa Newcomb was born in 1955, the daughter of the artist Mary Newcomb. She studied at Norwich School of Art and Bath Academy of Art, where she graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art. She then went to Wimbledon School of Art to do a one year advanced printmaking course.

Newcomb taught art and ceramics in Suffolk and Norfolk from 1985-89.

The Suffolk countryside provides inspiration for her work.

In 1994, Newcomb designed the jacket illustrations for Julia Blackburn's Daisy in the Desert and the paperback edition of The Emperor’s Last Island.

Newcomb has exhibited widely, including two sol shows at Annexe Gallery, Wimbledon, 1979-80, Chappel Galleries, Chappel, 1996 ans 2000, Crane Kalman Gallery, 2002 and 2004. Also in 2004 she exhibited cat and dog pictures with Lena Boyle at Ainscough Contemporary Art.

Her work is held by Strawberry Hill College, Ocean and Transport plc., Bradford Metropolitan Museum and The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
